Overview
Lavender can be grown in East Texas with careful attention to drainage, airflow, and sunlight. While our humidity poses a challenge, choosing the right variety and planting technique makes success possible.
Light Requirements
Lavender needs full sun with a minimum 6 hours daily. Morning to mid-afternoon light is ideal. Avoid planting lavender in shade or overly humid areas.
Soil & Planting
Lavender must have well-draining, slightly alkaline soil. Amend heavy soil with sand or gravel and raise beds if needed. Space plants 2–3 feet apart.
Watering
Water sparingly. Let the soil dry completely between waterings. Overwatering and poor drainage are the most common threats to your lavender’s health
Fertilizing
Lavender requires very little feeding. Use a low-nitrogen fertilizer sparingly in early spring if needed.
Seasonal Care
Cut back after blooming and prune lightly in spring. Mulch lightly but avoid heavy cover that traps moisture near the crown.
Where to Find Quality Lavender
Lavender is sometimes available at Gen1 Greenhouse during the spring season. Varieties are chosen for heat and humidity tolerance. Call ahead to confirm selection and availability.
