Past Business Expansion History
Gen1 Greenhouse started as Caleb’s plant hobby in 2021, and became an official business in September of 2023. Ever since then, our business has slowly grown from season to season. We started offering more plant varieties, and then soils and fertilizers. Today, Gen1 Greenhouse offers plants such as house plants, flowering annuals, vegetables, shrubs, trees, and more! We also offer fertilizers, soil mixes, and landscaping services such as flowerbed design, installation, cleanout, and maintenance. We have been offering these services out of a single 16’x24′ polytunnel greenhouse located in the Swift Hill/Shady Grove community, between Nacogdoches and Center in Texas. This has served us and our community well for almost three years now, but thanks to the support of our customers, we will soon be able to afford a major expansion!
Future Nursery Expansion
The 2027 Nursery Expansion Plan includes the construction of a new shade building near the road for a more convenient shopping experience, the renovation of our current greenhouse to accommodate year-round growing, and most importantly, the designation of set operation hours! These are the three main expansion goals for 2027, but the expansion does not end there! We plan to expand onto a larger plot of land in Nacogdoches soon after the 2027 Expansion Plan has been complete. Stay tuned to learn more about that!
Shade Building Expansion
In order to free our current greenhouse for growing year-round, we will be moving our sales into a new building located conveniently by the road, with plenty of room for parking! This building is estimated to be constructed before the spring of 2027. The building will be covered by a high-quality shade cloth supported by multiple sets of sturdy posts secured into the ground. Inside this building will be several tables for the display of nursery products, such as plants, soil, and fertilizer.
Growing Facility Expansion
After our current greenhouse is able to be utilized for growing year-round, we will renovate it to include better plant shelving, automatic irrigation, humidity control, better heating, and better cooling. These renovations, combined with the addition of new recourses like soils and fertilizers, will allow us to grow a much larger quantity of plants in a wider variety! Our own local growing facility will be used to grow native plants, heirloom varieties, and other exclusive plants which you cannot find at other commercial stores. Some of these varieties will even be rare or endangered!
Designation of Nursery Hours & Expanded Inventory
Starting in the spring of 2027, Gen1 Greenhouse will officially designate set nursery hours which will last all season long. No more pop-up sales or missed events! We will be here for you any time that you need us. Additionally, we will have an expanded inventory! We will be offering several varieties of slow-release plant food in 2lb and 4lb jars. These will range in variety to feed anything from potted house plants, vegetables, and rose bushes, to trees, fruits, and so much more! On top of this, we will be offering new decorative pots and bagged soil blends so that your plants can keep growing even after purchase!
Future Landscaping Expansion
After the nursery has been expanded, we will set our sights back onto the landscaping portion of Gen1 Greenhouse. Our goal is to expand the services which we offer, and to hire on a crew to help on the larger jobs. Currently, we offer flowerbed design, installation, maintenance, and cleanup. This includes plants, mulch, rocks, borders, and more! However, we do not currently offer irrigation or lighting services in the landscape, so we hope to change that soon!
Irrigation Installation Expansion
We already offer installation of soaker hoses, drip lines, and other above-ground systems, but we are not allowed to install underground systems yet. We are taking training classes to gain the licensing to install irrigation systems in both residential and commercial landscapes. Once we have the proper licensing, we will begin offering the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, such as underground pipes, pop-up sprinklers, electronic timers, and more!
Lighting Installation Expansion
Lighting is a very important part of the landscape! Everything from walkways to flowerbeds need the proper lighting to fit the space. We will soon offer the professional design and installation of proper lighting, customized to your needs. Lighting can be more than just cheap plastic stake lights. It can be the defining factor in your landscape!
