Overview
Lantana is a tough-as-nails perennial that thrives in heat, drought, and full sun. Its colorful flowers attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and pollinators throughout the growing season.
Light Requirements
Lantana requires full sun. Six to eight hours of direct sunlight ensures dense growth and prolific blooming.
Soil & Planting
Lantana is adaptable to poor soil, but prefers well-draining ground. Sandy or loamy soil is ideal. Avoid overly rich soil that promotes leafy growth over blooms.
Watering
Once established, lantana needs minimal watering. Water deeply every 10–14 days during drought conditions.
Fertilizing
Apply a light fertilizer monthly during the growing season to maintain blooming. Avoid overfeeding.
Seasonal Care
Hardy in zone 8b. Cut back in late winter or early spring to rejuvenate. Mulch lightly in colder winters.
Where to Find Quality Lantana
Lantana is available at Gen1 Greenhouse throughout the spring and summer. I grow heat-tested, locally hardy varieties perfect for Texas flowerbeds and pots. I even have some unique trailing varieties in purple and white!
